Saul Alinsky wrote a book called “Rules for Radicals.”  Since that time, many Leftists in this country have used it as a ‘how to’ book for building political power.  These people have made it their life’s work to study how to bring down a nation, but they have never bothered to study how to actually run one.  This is why they appear incompetent: because they do not know how to operate the day-to-day functions of government.  But it is a mistake to think of these people as incompetent because their goal is not to run the government, but to destroy it – or, failing that, to change it from within.  In many ways, they should be thought of as some science fiction parasite that takes over a host body.  Those who believe in the violent revolution are like Alien: where the new government suddenly bursts forth from the old.  But those who believe in “progressive” revolution are more like a parasite that infects the host into some other organism – sort of like a Zombie virus.  Either way, both camps are actually very good at destroying the government (or social engineering).  You just have to understand their check points to see how successful. If you do not know history, and you do not know how to reason, then you cannot recognize the patterns in history when you see them starting to repeat.  Instead of being able to see that a principle can manifest in many different ways, you will be prone to looking at the different ways it manifests itself and determine that they have nothing in common with the past.  Thus, you will totally miss the principle in lay.  This is why, when those who know history look back on it, they see the same patterns repeating over and over again.  This is why we are missing the warning signs today. I have been thinking about the political strategies I have heard discussed and have even adhered to myself.  You know them.  There’s the argument that we have to forgive politicians who compromise on principle because they can’t do the right thing if they can’t get re-elected.  Or that we have to vote for the lesser of two evils because the greater evil is somehow more evil than the lesser.  And the assertion that we have to vote for bad politicians simply because they have the correct letter after their name and we need that letter to be the majority so we can then affect the changes we want to see.  I have been thinking hard about these and other similar strategies, and I suddenly realized why they all fail.  In every case, we are actually advocating re-election for the sake of getting re-elected (i.e. the acquisition of power for the sake of power).  At no time is the goal ever really considered – because it is just accepted that trying to make that goal happen will mean no re-election and, thus, no change.  Well, this is not true.  In fact, this sort of reasoning is a trap. Recently, I have heard several people whom I consider to be thoughtful and well reasoned asset what can only be a dismissal of philosophy.  I’ll admit that this bothers me.  I understand there are few among us who want to think about the importance of philosophy and the role it plays in our daily lives.  Thinking is hard work, so most seek to avoid it as much as possible.  But the truth is, without philosophy, we would all be little more than animals: acting and reacting emotionally according to whatever whim or stimulus is acting upon us at any given time.  So, when I hear people say they do not let themselves be bound by a philosophy – that they see it only as a ‘guide’ – I have to hope it is because they do not understand what philosophy really is or what it means to them, or to society. Eliminating a Word does not Eliminate the Problem

As I have explained in “Form and Function” and again in my first post in the “DEFENDING THE LANGUAGE” series, it is not the word we use to discuss something that defines it, it is the nature of a thing that defines that thing.  This is why, when the language manipulators told us we could not use the word ‘handicapped’ anymore, that we had to say ‘challenged,’ people did not change the picture in their head of a handicapped person.  Children still taunt those with problems, they just use different words.  Instead, what actually happened is the language manipulators added an additional euphemism to our lexicon.  If you try, I am sure you can think of more than one example of an adult using the term ‘challenged’ to attack or insult someone.  So, what was changed by telling people they can’t call people handicapped anymore?  Continue reading “DEFENDING THE LANGUAGE [SOCIAL ENGINEERING]” →
