I was already going to write this post when I noticed my co-blogger, Texas95, had posted a link in the comments of my previous post. When I opened that link, I discovered that it supported the subject I intended to write about. My previous post was written the night before I attended a men’s group at our church where Rick Burgess of the Rick and Bubba Show was speaking. The subject of Rick’s address centered around the subject of my last post: do you have a demonic belief in God, or have you truly made Him Lord of your life. My youngest son accepted Christ last night, after he heard Rick speak. I immediately knew there was no coincidence between my post and Rick’s address, just as I know now that Texas95’s link is not a coincidence. Scripture tells us that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who believe in and trust on Him (Romans 8:28). I know this is the Truth because I see it at work in my life and the lives of those around me. It is also how I know that writing this post is obedience to God, and therein lies the subject of this post: the real duality in this world.
Sadly, I am going to have to use Glenn Beck to illustrate my point — again. I take no pleasure in using Mr. Beck to make my points, but he is one of the most influential people in our society today, so when he gets it wrong — especially this wrong — I feel the Holy Spirit compelling me to correct him. I do not do this for my sake. I do it for the sake of those who may hear and come to understand where, how and why people like Mr. Beck miss the mark. Beck speaks as though he follows God, but his understanding of God is not Scriptural. He has not really made God the Lord of his life. To be honest, I am still struggling to do this, myself. But God’s Word tells us there is only one way leading to Him, and all others lead to eternal ruin. I beg you, listen to God’s Word and choose the correct path.
The subject here is simple: we all know and understand there is a duality to this creation. We see it in the opposing aspects of our daily lives. We have night and day; light and dark; good and bad and so forth. However, these are not the true reality of this duality; they are only shadows of this duality. There are manifestations meant to help us see and recognize the nature of the true duality of this world. That duality is this:
You either accept God as the Lord of your life, or you do not.
These are the only two options that really exist in this world, and they are the only two that matter. There is God and then there is everything else. Which you choose will determine where you spend your eternity.
On his radio show today, Beck was explaining what a Rabi had taught him about the meaning behind ‘nes,’ the Hebrew word for ‘miracle.’ It general terms, it indicates a distinguishing mark, but it can also mean banner, signal or warning. The example Beck was given was the parting of the Red Sea. Scripture tells us that a strong wind blew all night, and that this parted the sea. Then, after the Hebrews escaped and Pharaoh and his army were still on the floor of the Red Sea, between the walls of water, the wind stopped and the walls collapsed, drowning Pharaoh and his entire army. If you watch The History Channel, you may have seen the explanation of how this is possible according to the normal laws of physics (as we understand them). Skeptics use this to argue that this means the story was not a miracle, but a coincidence. There is the duality of our world: do you see the Hand of God in what happens, or do you see ‘coincidence?’
Whether or not you see a miracle depends on what you see, and what you see depends on whether or not you have made The Lord master of your life. If you have, then you will see a miracle, but you will also see a warning in that miracle. It is a banner lifted high for all to see and to know that God lives. The warning is for those who choose not to recognize this and see only coincidence. Our founding is yet another example of how God speaks to us. Many argue that our founders were not Christian, or that their faith was not central to the founding of this nation. Those people do not see a miracle in the founding of America, but our founders did. I know this is true because I know our founders recognized the Hand of God at work:
“Providence has given our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as privilege and interest, of a Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

“It is impossible for the man of pious reflection not to perceive in it [the Constitution] a finger of that Almighty hand which has been so frequently and signally extended to our relief in the critical stages of the revolution.”

Here is where Beck goes wrong; and if you understand this point, you will understand how and why he can sound like he has made God the Lord of his life when — in reality — he has not. Beck’s religion has made something of an idol out of the Constitution. Mormon prophecy involves the belief that Mormon elders will have a hand in saving the Constitution during a time of great strife in this nation. To him and the Mormons, the Constitution seems to have a divine origin. This is why Beck is always focused on the Constitution and on asking for someone to stand up and save the nation. This takes the focus off God and places it on men. You hear this every time Beck tells his audience that we — as individuals — have ‘the power’ to save ourselves. He did it again today. After explaining the Hebrew concept of a miracle, he immediately told the audience they have the power to work their own miracles. We do not have such power! Scripture is clear on this: it is God and only God — working through us — that can work miracles. By focusing on men and not on God, Beck reveals that he has not truly made God the Lord of his life. He is actually trying to control God.
Our founders did not make this mistake. While they may have believed it to be divinely inspired, the founders never made an idol out of the Constitution. They understood that it was just a tool. The true expression of their belief was boldly declared in the Declaration of Independence, where in closing, they openly an unashamedly appealed to God for judgment in their quest for justice:
“We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, …And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
Beck has been making this mistake for as long as I have listened to him. He is looking for men to solve a problem that only God can solve. He cannot see that he is looking in the wrong direction because Beck’s religion teaches that men and their works save, not God’s Grace. This means he is looking to everything but God, and that means he has chosen poorly. He has taken a similar path as the men who tried to lay a trap for Daniel.
In the story about Daniel and the lions’ den, the Satraps of Chaldea schemed against Daniel. They tried to use Daniel’s faith to entrap him. As a result, the king had Daniel thrown into the lions’ den, where the Satraps assumed Daniel would be killed. But God protected Daniel and, as a result, the king threw the men who tried to have Daniel killed into the lions’ den along with their families. Not only were they killed instead of Daniel, the king ordered his entire kingdom to honor Daniel’s God, the Living God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Daniel did not look to men or even himself for salvation; he trusted in and relied on God to protect him and God proved He is faithful. It was this faith that caused the king to also recognize God. But Beck always turns to himself and his listeners. He looks to man for the answers, and does not look to or or rely on God. Compare Beck’s tendency to credit men and technology to the way Rick Burgess reacted to me last night when I thanked him for leading my youngest son to Christ. Rick immediately took a step back and asked me if I realized he had done nothing and that it was God who had done the work and deserved the glory. One of these men has mad God the Lord of his life, the other has not.
This same message is repeated by God’s prophets, only in a different form. Israel is repeatedly told not to seek help from Egypt. This is a Spiritually symbolic warning with a material world manifestation. When Israel was faced with threat of invasion, it turned its back on God’s protection and sought protection by making allies with Egypt. The result has been recorded in Scripture. God turned Israel over to her enemies and — eventually — she was exiled. The story about Daniel happened while Israel was still captive in a foreign land. After this, Egypt took on a Spiritual symbol of the reliance on man and the material world instead of God. When we turn to heroes or the Constitution or even the law to seek our salvation, we are repeating this mistake. Our salvation comes only from God, but only if and when we have faith in trust in and rely on Him to save us. Our founders did this and God was faithful to them and their cause. Lincoln turned the nation back to God and God favored the North — but only after Lincoln led the nation to repent and return to God. Before that, the South had won every battle.
But today we refuse to even listen to God’s voice. We have hardened our hearts. This is why Beck’s message to his audience causes me so much concern: because he speaks the words, but he shows — through his actions — that he does not understand them. Rather than telling people to repent and turn back to God, he tells us that we — man — can and will save ourselves. This is his Mormon religion speaking, NOT THE WORD OF GOD! You can even see it in his otherwise excellent work on the history of Islam and the Muslim Brotherhood (he seems to have finally discovered the truth on this issue). Beck has taught the history, but instead of telling you that this history is a manifestation of the Spirit world — a reflection of what is going on in the world we cannot see — Beck tells us that all the answers are found in this history. Once again, Beck turns away from God and toward himself. If God was truly his Lord, then Beck would know that everything he is seeing in the world today was foretold by God and His prophets — SO THAT WE WOULD KNOW THAT HE IS GOD!
There is a duality in this world, and you must choose: will it be God or everything else? You either chose to make God the Lord of your life, or you do not. There is no middle ground. You will either see the Hand of God working in your life or you won’t. I know God lives. I see His hand all the time. I saw it when I started writing this post and found Texas95’s link. Open it and, if you belong to God, you will immediately understand how and why I knew that I was doing what God wanted me to do when I sat down to write this post.
