TRUTH: Why you should be VERY Careful with Beck’s Advice on Religious Matters

This post is intended mostly to offer a word of caution to those who consider themselves to be Christians. I am writing – again – to caution those of you who listen to Glenn Beck. Today, May 20, 2014, at about 8:15 – 8:20 CST, Beck said some things on his radio program that simply are not true and which demonstrate that he is not a Christian – at least, not as Christ and His disciples would understand the term. What’s more, Beck intentionally constructed his words such that you have to either accept them or show yourself to be – essentially – a ‘hater.’ In our culture, this is a very seductive message, but it is still deception that leads people away from God. Unfortunately, if you do not know your Scriptures and basic logic, you can easily miss the deception in what he said. I hope to show you how Beck has deceived himself, and is now trying to deceive his listeners, as well.

First things first, let me review what Beck told his audience. He was reacting to people who claim he is not a Christian. He said that such people are equal to those who seek to silence those with whom they disagree. Essentially, Beck said that if you do not accept his faith as Christian, and any faith as equal (as long as it does not teach people to kill), then you are of the same spirit as the “Progressive.” This is a ‘happy-happy, joy-joy, all love gets to heaven’ message and it is not Biblically sound. What’s more, the way Beck delivered this message was fallacious. Not only did Beck construct his words so that you either agree with him or condemn yourself as a ‘hater’ (a fallacy), he also insulted anyone who disagrees with him by implying they are ‘Progressives’ (another fallacy). On every count, Beck’s argument was a direct violation of the principles of truth to which he claims to adhere. However, if you do not know the Bible and the rules of logic, you might not realize that he was deceiving his audience with every word he spoke.

The first thing you need to understand is that, if you claim to believe in the Bible and that it is the word of God – the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – then you have to believe that it is the protected word of God. In other words, you must trust that God will make sure that His word will remain as He inspired it and that, if others try to distort it, His word will prevail. You must also believe that God’s word says what it means and means what it says. If you hold this understanding, then there is one and only one way to God, and that is through His only begotten Son, the Lord, Jesus Christ.

OK, I am going to assume that the majority who read this do not really know the Bible that well, so, if this does not apply to you, please understand and accept that I mean no insult. I just want to do my best to explain this in terms of basic principles which the Bible calls sound doctrine.

I will start by telling you that the Bible does not teach a message of “all love gets to heaven.” In fact, much of the New Testament deals specifically with the doctrine of the Christian faith and correction of bad doctrine within the Church that had had already developed in the first Century. The Gospel of John and all three of John’s letters were written for this primary purpose: to correct bad teachings in the Church. Now, if the Apostle John, whom Christ loved, felt that there were right and wrongs concerning the Gospel message, then we should accept that there are rights and wrongs! But more than this, Jesus said that, if we love Him, we will keep His commands. Since Christ claimed to be one with God and God, this means every command in the Bible is a command from Jesus. So, if we love Jesus, we must try to keep His commands – all of them.

One of the central teachings of the Bible is the Trinity: that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are three in one. They are separate yet one. This is found from the start of the Bible until the very end. The Apostle John says that anyone who denies this is Antichrist. Jesus said to deny one (the Son or the Father) is to deny the other. The very Hebrew words and grammatical structure used to describe God show that He is One and more than One at the same time. But the Mormons have changed this Biblical teaching. They deny the Trinity by changing the understanding of it. THIS IS A VIOLATION OF GOD’S COMMANDS!!!

Mormons also believe that god and Jesus were both real men who lived on the earth, and that Jesus is a literal, physical son of God. Through similar reasoning, Mormons also believe that Satan is a son of God. In fact, they believe all created beings are sons of God – and the Bible actually does call the angels and men ‘sons of God.’ But here is the key to understanding the difference: the Bible does not equate the use of ‘sons of god’ in the same way Mormons do. In the original Hebrew and Greek, there is a distinction made between angels (messengers), men and Jesus. Mormons, as explained in the link above, hold a different understanding than what is taught in the Bible.

So how do Mormons think they can get away with this? They do the exact same thing that Muslims do: they say that people have perverted the Bible and that when they have ‘properly’ translated it, it supports their belief. Well, unfortunately for both Muslims and Mormons, the oldest known records of the Bible are consistent with those modern versions that have been faithfully translated – especially those in keeping with the cultural influences in the original text. This is where archeology undermines both the Muslim and Mormon’s faith, which then means that both are perversions of the Bible and, therefore, not in keeping with what Jesus and His disciples taught.

Now, how can we who try to explain and correct these false beliefs be showing the love of God? Easy. If I love you, and I know that you are traveling a path that leads to damnation, I will try to correct you. True, I will do it with love and patience, but I will try to correct you. However, if I do not love you, or I am deceived by Satan, I will let you continue in the error of your ways. In fact, I might go so far as to tell you that, unless you accept all peaceful belief, you are a hater and cannot be of God. In this way, I not only continue in the lies of Satan, I keep God’s real children from saving any of the rest of those Satan has deceived. I believe this is exactly where Beck is and what he did today, and this is why I pray for him often: I pray that God will remove the scales from his eyes and his heart so that he may see the truth.

But I also pray for those who call themselves Christians who are willing to allow Beck and others like him to continue believing they are following Christ’s Gospel message. They are not, and this is not my ‘opinion.’ All one has to do to prove this for themselves is read the Gospels and the New Testament. There is one way to God, and you must be sure you understand it or you will fall under the very condemnation Christ, Himself, said many will fall:

Wolves in sheep’s’ clothing, and those who destroy by peace: the Bible warns against this sort of person many times.   If someone is preaching peace, but then tells you that you must accept the ‘all love gets to heaven message’ or you are the hater who does not love God, then you have found such a wolf.  If you find someone who perverts logic (i.e. the truth) to push their way on you, you have found one of those wolves.  When you find a man who has changed God’s word (i.e. Muhammad or Joseph Smith), you have found a false prophet.  And we know this because the Apostles explain it in their letters to us.  This is a major theme in the New Testament, and all we have to do is read God’s word to find that this is the truth — not the ‘all love gets to heaven’ lie.

[NOTE: I think it is important that I make this clear.  I am not teaching that a person must believe in the Trinity or they cannot be saved.  In fact, I am fairly certain this is not the case.  However, I am equally certain that, once we know about the Trinity and what the Scriptures have to say about Jesus, who He is and His Gospel message, at that point, you deny the Gospel, Jesus and the Trinity at the peril of your soul.  Again, I am not nor do I want to give the impression that i am speaking for God, but I am doing my best to stand on His word and what it clearly and plainly teaches — without need for ‘secret’ information/understanding or twisting of meaning.]
