5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
I say this often, but I wonder how many actually understand what it means. Well, actor, Mathew McConaughey, presented us with an excellent illustration of what this means. In case you did not hear his recent acceptance speech at the 2014 Oscar awards, give this a listen:
In response to McConaughey’s speech, at least one critic wrote that they did not even know what McConaughey meant by this speech. That is the perfect illustration. McConaughey was thanking God – the Light – and the darkness (i.e. those who reject God) do not understand His people or why they praise Him.
Let this be a warning: if one of God’s people praise Him for all He has done for, in and through their lives and you find that you do not understand what they are saying, that is a strong indication that you are on the path to certain destruction. Rather than mock those people you do not understand, I would urge you to pull them aside and ask them to tell you about God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Maybe then you will come to understand the Light, too.
