I want you to read the story and watch the video clip in this link:
The truncated clip features August’s statement: “But even under the new Common Core if even if they said 3 x 4 was 11, if they were able to explain their reasoning and explain how they came up with their answer, really in words and oral explanations and they showed it in a picture but they just got the final number wrong? We’re more focusing on the how and the why.”
Now, before you even think about what this lady said about correct answers and/or the ‘reasoning process,’ let me show you something that was written by the father of our modern public education system:
“Were all instructors to realize that the quality of mental process, not the production of correct answers, is the measure of educative growth something hardly less than a revolution in teaching would be worked.”
― John Dewey, Democracy And Education
I hope you see that the idea being expressed in the story and video clip is the same as the one expressed by John Dewey. This is important because of who John Dewey was, what he wanted to do and how he wanted to do it.
John Dewey was a founder of the American Progressive movement. He was also a card-carrying Communist and member of the Communist Party USA. He was totally enamored with the education system in Russia and, upon returning from a visit to Russia, he came back to the U.S. planning to bring the Russian system to American education. But, once again, we need to understand what the Russians were trying to do in their schools to understand what Dewey wanted to do.
John Dewey started kindergarten in America. Why? Because the Russians started school as early as possible and Dewey wanted to emulate that practice. And this is why the Russians wanted to start schooling as early as possible:
The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother’s care, shall be in state institutions at state expense.
–Karl Marx
Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.
–Vladimir Lenin
Education is a weapon, whose effect depends on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.
— Josef Stalin
John Dewey agreed. He wrote words much to the same effect:
Since changes are going on anyway, the great thing is to learn enough about them so that we will be able to lay hold of them and turn them in the direction of our desires. Conditions and events are neither to be fled from nor passively acquiesced in; they are to be utilized and directed.
As a Progressive, John Dewey believed in social engineering. He believed he could use “science” to “engineer” the society he envisioned, and he could implement this change through the education process. It’s all in his books. All you need to do is read them. But here is a short version:
Children who know how to think for themselves spoil the harmony of the collective society which is coming where everyone is interdependent.
There it is: Dewey didn’t want our children to know how to think; he just wanted to teach them what to think. He also wanted them to be interdependent (with the government as their nanny). This is the very same idea being pushed by Common Core, which is the national implementation of John Dewey’s plan for American education.
Now, just in case you do not see the problem with giving someone credit for a wrong answer as long as they can explain how they arrived at their answer. If they actually understood how they arrived at their answer, the answer wouldn’t be wrong. So, by saying we want to focus on the mental process – as Dewey advocated – what you are doing is conditioning the student to believe they know how to think while crippling their ability to ever learn how to really do so. Nothing will ever change the fact that some questions have correct answers, and no one can be deemed to understand how to work a problem if they cannot arrive at that correct answer. Thus, if you understand how to add, 2+2 is always 4. If you don’t answer 4, then you do not understand the principles of addition. Giving a child credit for any other answer is not education, it is indoctrination – period.
Now, there are two last things you need to know. You need to know that Dewey was trying to use our schools to build his new society:
The teacher is engaged not simply in the training of individuals, but in the formation of the proper social life…. In this way, the teacher always is the prophet of the true God and the usherer-in of the true Kingdom of God.
Sadly, Dewey was an Atheist. What he meant by ‘the true god’ was man. Dewey believed man could become his own god, and he saw the teacher’s role as the prophet who would teach this new religion to the students, thus creating his new society. Again, if you do not believe me, start reading his books. I have no fear of what you’ll find. But if you do read his books, then you might start to understand why Progressives have been working so hard to kick God and the Bible out of our schools: they don’t want the competition.
And here is the last thing you need to know. Dewey was not alone, and neither was Ayres. This is an agenda that was picked up from Russia, by people such as Woodrow Wilson, and has been carried forward in this country by the Progressives.
“Our problem is not merely to help the students to adjust themselves to world life. Our problem is to make them as unlike their fathers as we can.”
–Woodrow Wilson, while president of Princeton
Common Core is the culmination of decades of work. It nationalizes our school system, thereby making it easier to institute the Common Core agenda of using our schools to engineer society. This agenda was born from the Russian Revolution and Communist ideal. Until just recently – most likely because his work was deemed complete – that drive to institute Common Core was partially headed up by William Ayres. Yes, that Bill Ayres, the unrepentant domestic terrorist, murderer and close friend and consultant of President Obama. SO let me end by asking you this:
Given the unbroken chain from Revolutionary Russia and Communism, to Wilson, to Dewey and Ayres, how far do you think the apple of Common Core has fallen from the tree of its fathers? And given that tree, how good do you think the fruit of Common Core could possibly be?
[NOTE: If the majority of Americans are forced – by law – to go through this government indoctrination mill we call ‘school,’ then all that is required to create a ruling elite to teach selected children properly, so they will now how to think rather than what to think. Luckily, we have no evidence that this could possibly be the plan because all of our politicians and leaders of our social institutions send their kids to public school just like the rest of us, don’t they?]
