There was a story in the news this past week or so — about a Baptist Pastor dropping his wife off at work at an abortion clinic. When The Christian Post asked Pastor Chatman’s wife, Callie Chatman, how she could work at an abortion clinic, she said:
“I feel that we have all sinned. None of us are perfect. No sin is greater than any sin. I don’t know why, other than that’s the only decision [abortion] that a woman could make, that’s her right to make that decision, because that’s her body.”
What’s more, The Christian Post reports that Callie Chatman has also said:
“God forgives and we are not to judge,”
Let me say this as clearly as I can. I am not judging this woman’s salvation. That is between her and God. However, if she or anyone else calling themselves a Christian believes this excuse, you are not reading your Bible. Scripture is clear on this point: God does not forgive unrepentant sin!
Now, let me put my hand in the air and confess that I am a sinner. We are all sinners. But I recognize I am a sinner and I feel shame, regret and remorse for it. In other words, I am repentant. But those who think they can just say ‘God forgives’ and then think that means no one has a right to judge their unrepentant sin do not know Scripture. Scripture clearly teaches that God does not forgive such a sin. Furthermore, it teaches that believers are supposed to confront the sinner and — if necessary — kick them out of the congregation!
Luke 17:3 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
3 [a]Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.
If we are not supposed to ‘judge,’ then how do we know when to rebuke our brother or sister? We can’t, yet God’s Word clearly tells us to do just that, so we are told to judge. It is just that our society has so destroyed the language that the majority of us do not understand the different meanings of the word ‘judge.’ This is why many Christians use the word ‘discern,’ but it still means to judge between things (such as actions). Then notice that we are only commanded to forgive if the person repents.
God tells us He judges us (in the judgment sense that most people understand the word) according to our own measure. So, if you sin willfully and are not repentant, God is not fooled. You are not forgiven:
Galatians 6:7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
The Lord knows our hearts, and the heart of an unrepentant sinner is in rebellion to the Lord. You can believe in God and not be saved. Satan and his demons believe in God. But there is a difference in believing in God as Lord of your life. To be saved, God must be the Lord of your life; and if God is the Lord of your life, you willfully obey Him.
2 Timothy 2:19 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”
This means you avoid wickedness, and abortion most certainly is wickedness! And so is unrepentant sin!
My brothers and sisters in Christ: do not assume you know what God’s Word says. There are many wolves within the fold, and they are seeking to tear the flock apart. They are even in the pulpit on Sunday. The Church translated and printed Bibles so we could read God’s word for ourselves. The Church started free schooling for the same reason — so believers did not need a priest to read God’s Word. the veil has been torn; we can come boldly before the Throne of God. We do not need anyone to intercede for us. Once we accept Christ, He does this for us. So read your Bible for yourself. Search it and see what it says. Then you will know that people such as this Pastor and his wife are not walking with the Lord, and this is exactly how America fell into the ruin in which she now finds herself.
[NOTE: For more on this subject, I recommend this blog post.]
“The Lord requires that we do our part in bringing others to repentance. SON OF MAN, I HAVE MADE YOU A WATCHMAN FOR THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL; SO HEAR THE WORD I SPEAK AND GIVE THEM WARNING FROM ME. WHEN I SAY TO THE WICKED, “O WICKED MAN, YOU WILL SURELY DIE,” AND YOU DO NOT SPEAK OUT TO DISSUADE HIM FROM HIS WAYS, THAT WICKED MAN WILL DIE FOR HIS SIN, AND I WILL HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS BLOOD. BUT IF YOU DO WARN THE WICKED MAN TO TURN FROM HIS WAYS AND HE DOES NOT DO SO, HE WILL DIE FOR HIS SIN, BUT YOU WILL HAVE SAVED YOURSELF.”…Ezekiel 33:7-9.”
Nicely explained.
All who condone others evil actions or “look the other way” will be held to account.
