Is Talk Radio and Social Media a ‘Vent’ to Control Organized Back-Lash?

Recently, a friend of mine announced he was leaving face book because he was tired of the negative and destructive nature of the commentary that seems to dominate social media.  He lamented that people seem to have chosen sides and were more interested in trying to ‘beat’ their opponents than they were in trying to understand and build them up.  My friend is a Christian, so I know that what is really bothering him is the lack of love (agape love) in our society as a whole, but I wonder whether or not he is even aware that this division has been intentionally manufactured?

Let me start by asking you, please, understand that I am not trying to talk down to anyone, nor do I assume the reader is uneducated.  It’s just that I know what has been done to us, therefore, I know how much we do not know as a society.  I know because I know how much I still don’t know.  So, please, i beg you, accept that I write in a tone that is offered in brotherly love and intended to help you see and understand our world and the forces that shape it.  I said all this so you would not take the following in the wrong way:

To understand how we are manipulated, you need to have a very broad knowledge of history.  I have a much broader awareness than most, but even I only see the tip of the iceberg.  This is because there is far more I need to learn and understand before I will be able to see the picture more clearly.  I’m working on learning more.  In the meantime, however, I am compelled to share what little I have learned.  Let me start with this story.

In the fall of 1994, I was listening to Rush Limbaugh’s radio program.  This was long before I came to understand what I am trying to explain to you now.  Rush took a call from a ‘seasoned citizen.’  The lady accused him of being a plant who had been put on the radio to vent the frustration that had been building in conservative America.  Rush immediately attacked her — and he got personal.  In fact, Rush’s reaction was down-right ugly.  He cut the elderly lady off, went to commercial, and when he came back, he spent the entire next segment destroying the lady’s character and her assertion.  At the time, I did not understand that this woman was very wise and she saw through what was happening.  I see it now because I finally stumbled across the documentation that explains how the process works.  It is the same process that is being encouraged on face Book; the same process described and explained in Saul Alinsky’s book, “Rules for Radicals.

I suspect Rush’s caller was aware of all this and more because she explained it perfectly.  She said that the people behind the Republican Party had poll data that told them there was a back-lash growing in the conservative base of the Party.  They knew they needed to find a way for the people to vent that energy or it could result in a third Party movement that would destroy the system (and their hold on power).  So they put Rush on the radio to provide a place for people to vent. It does not matter whether Rush knew what he was being used for or not; all that matters is that his program was put in place to act as that vent.  However, in the case of Limbaugh, it also gave the power behind the scenes a vehicle by which they could easily shape and direct the energy of their political base.

Face Book serves the same function, it just takes a different form.  In the case of Face Book, it is not so much political unrest that is being vented, it is social unrest in general.  never the less, the function is still the same: to take some of the momentum out of what might otherwise become a real movement that could threaten the establishments hold on power.  This is why everyone attacked the TEA Party, and later — after they felt they had destroyed it — those whose role it is to control and direct the conservative base in America switched sides and claimed to support the TEA Party.  Even Rush was part of this Kabuki theater. No matter what the form, the goal is to keep people talking so they do not focus their energy into action.

The people behind all this know what they are doing.  They believe it is a science, and if they can learn to master this science, they can use it to control the masses without the people ever knowing it.  It started in the Woodrow Wilson era and was originally known as ‘propaganda.’  It was developed by a man named Edward Bernays, who said history is a weapon (there’s another connection to the theme of this blog).  At the time, that word did not hold the negative connotations it does today.  Goebbels, the NAZI propaganda minister, wrote in his diary that the NAZI’s learned the art from Wilson.  Eventually, this ‘science’ became known as commercial advertising, and later, public relations.  Today, we call it ‘spin.’  However, today, they have added another dimension to their attempt to control people.  We call it ‘tribalism.’ but it is basically ‘divide and conquer.’

By keeping people talking, they can keep people from acting.  However, they also have to keep people from uniting.  God came down and broke up the people of Babel because He said, if the people remained untied, there would be nothing they couldn’t do (i.e. no end of mischief and evil).  The same principle applies here.  By keeping us divided along Party line, racial lines, religious lines, they can further create division that will prevent the people from uniting against them.  This is also the reason behind Net Neutrality and government control of all media outlets.  they must control the narrative or none of this works.   If all of America read and believed this post, their hold on power would be over.  They know this, and they have said so.  Here is how a few well-known ‘bad guys’ explained it:

“The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the [public] is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country.”

–Edward Bernays

“Without some form of censorship, propaganda in the strict sense of the word is impossible. In order to conduct propaganda there must be some barrier between the public and the event.”

–Walter Lippmann

“Not every item of news should be published. Rather must those who control news policies endeavor to make every item of news serve a certain purpose.”

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

“We have made the Reich by propaganda”

–Joseph Goebbels

It is to these ends that the government has worked so hard to seize control over every aspect of our government and social institutions.  It is how they control the narrative, and by controlling the narrative, they maintain their hold on power.  Woodrow Wilson explained it in his writings, but Wilson is very difficult for the average person to read and understand.  However, a protege of his explained the principles we’re discussing in much simpler words:

“In relation to the political decontamination of our public life, the government will embark upon a systematic campaign to restore the nation’s moral and material health. The whole educational system, theater, film, literature, the press and broadcasting – all these will be used as a means to this end.”

–Adolf Hitler

Now, there is much, much more to all of this than I can cover in this post.  If you stay with this blog long enough, I will eventually cover more of it.  But, for now, I hope this is enough to help you get a peek under the curtain that hides the hidden hand of control behind the scenes of our society.  Either way, I understand if this post is not enough to cause you to change the way you think or act toward others on the internet and in your daily lives.  I understand.  I may be aware of it, but the conditioning that has been built into us since we started school is deep and difficult to overcome.  Even when you know what has been done to you, you will still find yourself doing things you know are not helpful.  I do, so I do not expect any more from anyone else.  In fact, my understanding of this and many other issues has helped me to hold mercy in my heart more than contempt.  But, if I could wish for anything, I would hope that this post and those to follow would give you cause to check yourself before you reply to the next post you read on Face Book.  It is very likely that the person you are being asked to hate is just as deceived as the rest of us — even if that person is John Boehner or Barack Obama.  None of us is immune from deception, and it is for this reason we could all use to extend a bit more understanding to our fellow man.

  1. “. . . the conditioning that has been built into us since we started school is deep and difficult to overcome. Even when you know what has been done to you, you will still find yourself doing things you know are not helpful.”

Reality is camouflaged until one turns off “the pundits” and examines the actions of others openly, honestly and without influence.
