NOTE: If you are a believer, I ask that you stay with me and read this post all the way to the end.  If you are not a believer, this post may be of even greater value to you as — if I succeed in what I hope to do — you might find that there are many grounded Christians in this world.

Today is September 19, 2017.  In the first hour of his show today, Glenn Beck mocked those believers who think there is some significance to what is being called the Revelation 12 sign.  This is a complicated and emotional subject — especially for many believers.  However, if we allow Scripture to guide us, there is some reason to believe we should pay attention to this sign.  Now, while I do not necessarily believe the Revelation 12 sign necessarily heralds the end of the world, if you will indulge me for a few minutes, I will attempt to explain why I believe that it is a sign to the world that something important is about to happen in Yahweh’s plan for the restoration of this universe.

First, let us be sure we understand that the Lord, Himself, said that the sun, moon and stars were given to provide signs to the world:

Genesis 1:14 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

14 Then God said, “Let there be [a]lights in the [b]expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

The next thing we need to understand is that a great deal of Scripture is written in symbolic language.  This is especially true when it comes to prophecy.  Luckily, if we will read carefully and accept what we are told, Scripture will clearly define a great many of the symbols it uses (which is exactly what Scripture claims: that it affirms and supports itself).

So, with these things being understood, let’s look at Revelation 12:

Revelation 12  New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Woman, Israel

12 A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; and she was with child; and she *cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth.

On September 23rd of this year, this picture will appear in the sky, as depicted at the top of this post.  Now, I am aware that a great many Christians sincerely believe that this is the sign that will mark the end of the world.  I do not question their faith — not at all!  They are trying to warn whoever will listen, as the Lord commands His followers to do.  But they have ignored other Scriptures that should have acted as a break on their zeal.  Scriptures such as this one, which is Jesus speaking directly to the question of His return:

Matthew 24:36  New American Standard Bible (NASB)

36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

As a result, those believers who are declaring that September 23rd is definitely the end of the world weaken their effectiveness.  The world has heard such claims many times in the past, but the Lord hasn’t returned.  This makes it easy for scoffers to mock them, and to ignore their warnings — which is exactly what Glenn Beck did on his radio program today.

After reading the Revelation 12 passage, Beck mocked those who claim the September 23rd astral alignment is a sign by saying it happens every 12 years.  Well, this is true, but only if we are talking about the sun and moon in Virgo.  As it happens, Jupiter is going to be in Leo at the exact same time and — if you believe the people who have been doing their research into this subject — this will be the first and only time in human history that we will have the specific astral alignment we will see on September 23rd.  What’s more, it will happen on what is believed to be the Jewish holiday of  Rosh Hashanah.  This is a Jewish High Holy Day, and the only one of the three which is not believed to be connected to the life of Christ here on earth.  It is also connected to a celebration known as the Feast of Trumpets, which ends in a trumpet blast known as ‘the last trump.’  Beck didn’t explain any of this to his audience.  He simply mocked them by saying the event occurs all the time (when it doesn’t — not with all the connections I just explained) and then reading this passage:

Luke 21:25-28  New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Return of Christ

25 “There will be [a]signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the [b]world; for the powers of [c]the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

After reading this, Glenn then paraphrased some of what many believers have been saying: that the roaring of the seas is symbolic of the hurricanes we have been having.  Beck even went so far as to say that the hurricanes concern him, but they are hardly enough to make him faint.  He said that, instead of a storm, the things that worry him are the political unrest in the world, like the threat of nuclear war with North Korea.  He even played audio of the air raid sirens going off in Japan to warn the people of a North Korean missile launch.  Then Beck launched into a story about some minor celebrity who had the State of California invent a ‘label’ for them — because they claim they are neither male nor female.  This person is now known as a “non-binary” gendered person.  Beck said it was this sort of thing that worries him — not some claim that the hurricane rocked seas are a sign from God.

Well, this is where ignorance of Scripture (and, in Beck’s case, spiritual blindness) comes into the picture.  First, the Bible uses the symbol of “roaring seas” to represent chaos and political unrest.  Just one of many passages that compare the Gentile world to the sea:

Isaiah 57:20  New American Standard Bible (NASB)

20 But the wicked are like the tossing sea,
For it cannot be quiet,
And its waters toss up refuse and mud.

So, it is not a hurricane swept sea that Scripture tells us will trouble the hearts of men, but a growing sense of chaos and lawlessness (incidentally, this is the very thing Glenn said scares him the most when he was mocking those who believe the September 23rd astral alignment is a sign from God).

Beck didn’t stop there.  He also dismissed the Scriptural warning about the powers of the heavens being shaken (which echoes other warnings about the earth being shaken from its pillars).  However, here again, after he mocked Scripture, he launched into an explanation about the things that scare him, and should scare us.  In this case, Beck was saying that the turning of reason on its head should scare us more than prophecy.  But this is a clear indication that Beck is spiritually blind.  For all his years of seeking knowledge, he has not learned…

2 Timothy 3:7  New American Standard Bible (NASB)

always learning and never able to come to the [a]knowledge of the truth.

While it is true: the Bible does describer the world in terms of what we now see as ancient mythology, it has to be understood that it does not matter.  That was just the Lord speaking to His people in terms that helped them understand the way things worked.  So, in ancient mythology, the earth is supported by massive pillars.  If those pillars are shaken, then the earth rocks and becomes unstable.  The same applies to those things which hold the heavens in place: if the powers of the heavens are shaken, the heavens become unstable.  What we are meant to understand is this:

If man rejects God’s laws, the world will fall into chaos.

This is exactly what Beck has built his empire on: trying to show people how the world is becoming lawless, and showing the chaos that results from it.  So why can’t Beck see any of this?  The answer is simple: he’s lost.  As a Mormon, he rejects Revelation (and much of the rest of the Bible) in favor of the myths taught by Joseph Smith.  By following the teachings of a false prophet, Glenn Beck has blinded himself — pure and simple.

Maybe, if Beck had explained the rest of the reasons to pay attention to the September 23rd astral alignment, then cited this passage instead of the one he chose to read, Beck might have been able to see the connections that God’s remnant are seeing:

Matthew 24:29-31  New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Glorious Return

29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from [a]the sky, and the powers of [b]the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. 31 And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His [c]elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

The sun will be darkened and the sun will not give its light: described in other places by saying the moon will turn to blood and the sun will turn to sackcloth.  We just saw a tetrad or what are known as ‘blood moons,’ and they all fell on significant dates and Jewish holy days.  We just had an eclipse, which was itself connected to other significant signs and Biblical symbols.  The sun turns dark during an eclipse, like sack cloth.  The world will be shaken. Up will become down, wrong will become right, and evil will be called good.  Look at the world: this is happening at an alarming rate.  Reason has no sway over people anymore.  They reject objective reality in favor of a world of their own making.  This is a literal description of 2 Thessalonians 2, the man of lawlessness (another Scripture connected to end-times prophecy).  Finally, the passage warns that Christ will return with a ‘great trump.’  In Revelation, this is connected to the ‘Trumpet of God,’ which is the last trumpet blown.  If you are a believer — heck, even if you aren’t — it is not hard to see the connection between the ‘last trump’ of Rosh Hashanah/Feast of the Trumpets and the ‘Trumpet of God.’

So to wrap this up: I do not know when Christ will return.  I have Biblical reason to believe the world will not end on September 23rd, 2017.  However, the Scripture that leads me to believe this also leads me to believe that the September 23rd, Revelation 12 sign is real, and that it is God trying to get the world to wake up and turn back to Him, His ways and His Laws.  Other believers may disagree, and that’s fine.  I will not quarrel with them.  But I will offer their sdame warning to those who do not believe at all.  The things we have seen in the past few years are unique.  They have never and will never happen again — not in connection with the dates they have fallen.  What’s more, the world has been matching the end-times prophecies very well.  If you know them, 1948 saw the fulfillment of the third most foretold prophetic event in Scripture: the resurrection of Israel as a nation.  1967 saw the fulfillment of prophecy: the return of Jerusalem to the Jews.  There are only two major events left: Armageddon and the return of Christ!

  1. What happened to Glenda’s radio show ????
He’s been taken off certain markets.

I’m not sure about restoration of the universe…. but restoration of the world perhaps. Universe is too big for me. Rather I see it as a restoration of man/woman spiritual perceptions …..which would relate to perceptions and understanding of the Universe.

Beck is a Mormon and they believe each Mormon Dude will “inherit” their Planet with Mormon babes so they can be fruitful and multiply souls to re-inject into earth . Or something like that. Not Christian at all. Also they believe Jesus and Satan were Brothers right ?

    • Don,

Beck has started to lose his audience/market. He has allowed his religion and personal need to redeem himself to take over. Plus, as you say, he is a Mormon, and I believe he sees himself as one of their later day prophets with a personal role in saving the nation. Mormon end-times prophecy revolves around the Mormon fathers coming to the rescue of the U.S. when the Constitution is “hanging by a thread” (you’ve heard him use that term — a lot). It is why he keeps saying he believes his audience will save the nation. I think he believes he has been proselytizing to his audience. Well, if he has or hasn’t, it sure seems like he is and that is what has been turning me off him. I can’t be alone.

As for the restoration of the universe: that is what the Scriptures say. So it isn’t my opinion, just prophecy 🙂

      • I can’t hear him any more on my radio station.

Mormon…. I like the Babes Bit…. :-)….. but only in theory, knowing my “limitations”…. you can only eat so many sammichs after right ?
        Seriously weird stuff though.

What does restoration of the Universe mean ? In other words how does the Blue Shift/Red Shift need to be restored ? In this sense I am using restored as changed.

        • I am not foolish enough to pretend I know how the universe will be restored, but I know that Scripture says it has been cursed. What that means we can only guess, but maybe it is why all things deteriorate (entropy)? But I also know that Scripture says the universe is groaning to be restored to its original state, and that Isaiah says this will happen. Actually, Isaiah suggests that this universe will be destroyed and replaced with a new one — a universe with no decay, no death. In short: a return to Eden.
